The president of the Ivorian Football Federation, Yacine Idriss Diallo, has decided to terminate the contract of Jean-Louis Gasset while the Elephants are still in the race to qualify for the round of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
This comes after a series of impressive results including the humiliation they received in front of their fans in the 2023 AFCON.
The AFCON hosts were thoroughly beaten in their final group match against Equatorial Guinea. They are now hoping for a miracle to qualify for the round of 16.
It was the heaviest home defeat in Ivory Coast history and they are the first Afcon host to lose two group games since they did so in 1984.
Former Bordeaux coach Gasset was appointed by the federation in May 2022, replacing his compatriot Patrice Beaumelle whose contract was not renewed.
