The arrival of Andre Onana in Côte d’Ivoire has been surrounded by controversy.
According to reports Andre Onana was not allowed to be part of the team after after arriving in Yamoussoukro less than two hours before the Indomitable Lions game against the Gambia Scorpions.
Andre Onana arrived in Côte d’Ivoire on Monday morning after being on duty for Man United against Spurs.
On arriving in Côte d’Ivoire, his flight was blocked in Abidjan due to bad weather conditions at Yamoussoukro Airport, and have to travel by road for two hours to Yamoussoukro.
The Manchester United player arrived in Yamoussoukro an hour before the game and was seen with the Senegalese legend, El Hadji Dio outside the Cameroon players.
Reports said Rigobert Song didn’t even have a word with Onana when he arrived in camp and decided to keep Onana away from the rest of the players and not let him be part of the team.
Onana during an interview said “I have a lot of things to say but I won’t say it here because we compete. The most important thing is the sacred union. We are here to win the AFCON 2023. I ask the supporters to support us in good times and bad”
“I am one of the leaders so I take my responsibilities and that is why I am here. I don’t want people to criticize the youngest. Let people continue to criticize me, I’m used to it, I do what is good for my country. It’s like choosing between my father and my mother, but my country comes first, that’s why I’m here. We’re together.”
Onana and his teammates will be in action on Friday against defending Champions Senegal after failing to beat 10-man Gambia team
