According to a journalist named Micky Jnr, One member of the South African team told him yesterday (off record) that some journalists from Morocco spat on them after they over the Atlas Lions of Morocco in the round of 16 clash at San Pedro.
South Africa stunned World Cup semi-finalists Morocco 1-0 to make it to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations. Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa gave Hugo Broos a 57th-minute lead and Teboho Mokoena secured a famous victory in the fifth minute of added time. To compound their misery, Achraf Hakimi missed a late penalty and Sofyan Amrabat was sent off.
According to the journalist who is in Ivory Coast to cover the event, This happened because there’s a space made available to the rest of the South Africa team who can’t sit on the bench during games and this space is just so close to the journalists.
He went further to say “At the mixed zone, this time clear to me because I was standing there, a Moroccan journalist (a lady specifically) also called the South African team videographer names and described him as “an ugly thing” when he came to take a video”
The North African teams have been known to be very hostile when results don’t go their way and this is one of the things they are doing to teams who had the better of them.
