Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has urged Nigerian football fans to stop comparing Alex Iwobi to mercurial midfielder Jay Jay Okocha.
Aiyegbeni told Nigerians to focus on the reality of Nigeria rather than focusing on Alex Iwobi and the 2010 World Cup goal he missed.
Iwobi faced heavy criticisms from Nigerians despite helping the Super Eagles to finish the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast as runner-up.
The Fulham star was singled out for blame after hosts Ivory Coast came from behind to deny the Eagles a fourth continental title.
” Alex Iwobi would never be like Jay Jay they need to stop comparing, the guy is different , Iwobi can run from London to Nigeria but Jay Jay can’t Jay Jay is skillful and intelligent he is one of the best Nigeria has ever produced”.
“Nigeria’s problem is not football, Nigerians should focus on the reality than facing Iwobi and then Yakubu missing goal, Nigeria has bigger problems “.
