Africans have rated Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan as the best referee so far in the 2023 AFCON after he handled the Group D match between Algeria and Mauritania which saw the elimination of the 2019 champions.
Omar makes history as the first from Somalia to officiate in the Africa Cup of Nations when he makes his debut on the continental stage during the high-stakes Group E opener between Tunisia and Namibia.
Marking a significant moment not only for him but for his nation’s presence in international football, He also handled high high-stakes match between Algeria and Mauritania at the San Pedro Stadium on Tuesday.
The Somalian was praised for the way he handled the tense match between the desert forces of Algeria and the Lions of Chinguetti which saw Mauritania recording their first-ever AFCON win to reach the round 16 of the 2023 AFCON.
Since his commencement in the CAF games in 2020, the 30-year-old has developed a reputation as one of Africa’s finest young referees.
