The Confederation of African Football has announced that the away-goal rule will not be used to determine the winner of the final round of the 2024 Paris Olympics CAF Women’s Qualifiers.
The final matches of the 2024 CAF Women’s Olympic Qualifiers will be held on Tuesday between South Africa and Nigeria in Pretoria and Morocco and Zambia in Rabat.
Nigeria and Morocco both won the first leg of the qualifiers but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opted to discard the outdated away goals rule.
Under this decision, if Nigeria and South Africa find themselves deadlocked at the end of 90 minutes following the second leg, the match will proceed into extra time and potentially penalties.
The same goes for the Morocco and Zambia match. If Zambia scored a goal to tie the game at 2-2 aggregate, the game would proceed to extra time and then penalties if both sides failed to find the back of the net at extra time.
The winners of the CAF Olympics qualifiers will represent CAF in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
