CAF has been forced to appoint a new referee for South Africa and DR Congo clash after a Moroccan official refused to take charge:
AFCON referee, Redouane Jiyad of Morocco was supposed the officiate the 3rd place match between South Africa and DR Congo but has abandoned it in protest for not allowing him to officiate the Final match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the host, Ivory Coast
Jiyad who has since flown to his country was replaced by Ethiopian referee, Bamlak Tessema in today’s match
The report says the Moroccan referee who was initially asked to officiate the final match before he was replaced by a Mauritanian referee, Dahane Beida
Ethiopia’s Tessema Weyesa will now officiate the third-place playoff game between South Africa and DR Congo today.
In the final between Host Ivory Coast and Nigeria referee Dahane Beida from Mauritania will be in charge.
Jerson Emiliano Dos Santos from Angola will be taking on the role of the first assistant referee, while Diana Chikotesha will serve as the second assistant referee. The important task of acting as the fourth official will be entrusted to Bouchra Karboubi from Morocco.
