Colombia singer Shakira has accused her ex-husband Gerard Piqué of dragging her music career down.
Shakira and Gerard Piqué were together for 11 years before they announced their separation.
The pop singer and her longtime boyfriend announced their separation in a joint statement on June 4, 2022.
The couple first met in 2010 on the set of the “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” music video. The track was the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa, and multiple footballers made an appearance in the video, including Piqué — an FC Barcelona defender who caught Shakira’s eye.
Shakira doing The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon said “I’ve been putting out music here and there but it was really hard for me to put together a body of work. I didn’t have time. It was the husband factor. Now I’m husbandless. Yeah, the husband was dragging me down. Now I’m free. Now I can actually work.”
