Barcelona is said to be in an age falsification scandal According to Spanish publication Marca, who has opened an official investigation.
Sources confirm an official investigation into Lamine Yamal’s age is pending as timelines and school records verify the Barcelona youngster is soon to be 20 years old, not 16 as previously claimed.
Documents from the Catalan Football Federation have revealed that Lamine Yamal was 8 years old in 2013 when he signed for Barcelona, confirming he will indeed be turning 20 this year rather than 17.
But surprisingly, Barcelona reduced his age to 16 which is termed as the youngest player to participate in European competition.
This debate was ignited by a single newspaper article, allegedly from 2015, which claims Yamal was already 10 years old at the time, challenging his reported birth year of 2007.
“Lamine Yamal has been LYING about his age! The old newspaper confirms he was 10 years old in 2015, meaning this year he will turn 19 and not 17. Barcelona has been committing age fraud!”, a user named La Liga Frauds posted on
Lamine is said to be born on 13 July 2007 in Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona, Catalonia, to a Moroccan father and an Equatorial Guinean Fang mother.
