CAF was in East Africa last week to check on the match venues Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar intend to use for the 2024 CHAN tournament, a tournament strictly for home-based players.
The officials started their visit in Uganda before visiting Kenya, Zanzibar, and Tanzania in that order.
They tour proposed venues for the matches in the three countries after which they will file an inspection report that will inform the Africa football governing body’s final decision regarding the hosting rights for the tournament.
The facilities inspected are the Nelson Mandela and Nakibuvo Stadiums in Kampala, Uganda, Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam Tanzania, and the newly-refurbished Amaan Sports Complex in Zanzibar while the Nyayo Stadium, Bukhungu Stadium, Mamboleo Stadium, Ulinzi Sports Complex, and the Kasarani Annex and Bukhungu Stadium in Kenya were inspected.
Of the four, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zanzibar appear ready on the stadium front with Kenya Bukhungu miles off given was closed last month with work scheduled to last at least three months.
