The African Cup of Nations competition, which is being held in Ivory Coast, will be televised, Multichoice, the parent company of DStv, announced on Wednesday.
The 2024 AFCON match is slated to take place between January 13 and February 11.
It had previously declared earlier on Wednesday that it would not be airing on its platform due to its inability to obtain the SuperSport channels’ broadcasting rights for the biggest football tournament on the continent.
“SuperSport Channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023, scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2024,” the statement stated. Nonetheless, Free to Air (FTA) channels operated by our partner broadcast stations will host AFCON 2023 games.
Football fans in Africa will always have unparalleled access to entertainment and games on DStv and GOtv platforms, including the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Zambian Super League, and many other highly esteemed football competitions. This is Multichoice Africa’s unwavering commitment.
Due to fear of losing many subscribers, Super Sport has made a late decision to buy broadcasting rights for the 2023 AFCON starting this weekend in Ivory Coast.
