H.E Dr Hage G. Geingob (82), President of the Republic of Namibia died early Sunday in a hospital in Windhoek, the presidential office said in a statement on social media. He was 82.
The Presidency there hasn’t given the cause of death, but late last month he traveled to the US for treatment.
He had been diagnosed with cancer following a regular medical check-up.
The country’s vice president, Nangolo Mbumba, announced on Sunday morning through a statement.
“It is with utmost sadness and regret that I inform you that our beloved Dr. Hage G. Geingob, the President of the Republic of Namibia has passed on today, Sunday 4 February 2024 at around 00h04 at Lady Pohamba Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment from his medical team,” read the statement signed by acting President Nangolo Mbumba.

He became president in 2015. The country is due to go for its general elections in November this year.
