Nigeria Patricia Mbata is the only remaining African boxer at the ongoing World Olympic Qualifiers in Busto Arsizio, Italy.
Patricia Mbata defeated Monika Langerova of the Czech Republic by unanimous decision (5-0) in the Round of 16 to progress to the Quarter-final stage of women’s 75kg.
Patricia Mbata will face Polish Elzbieta Wojcik in the women’s 75kg later today.
Meanwhile, other African boxers like Tunisia Islem, Cape Verde Ferchichi Ivanusa Moreira, Ghana Theo Allotey, Morocco Soulaimane Somghouli, and Namibia Tryagain Ndevelo were eliminated in the round of 16.
Theophilus Allotey was Ghana’s hope of sealing a place at this year’s Olympic Games in Paris after failing to secure a spot in the African qualifiers but he suffered defeat to South Korea’s Inkyu Kim.
Meanwhile, African Boxers will have one final chance to qualify for the Olympics at the qualifying tournament in Bangkok, Thailand in May.
