Broos: I will repeat it, the PSL is a very poor league, players are just running all over the places
The coach of Bafana Bafana Hugo Broos says the level of the Premier Soccer League is so poor that it gives him so much work to do with the national team, insisting that PSL level is still below international standards.
Players from the South Africa League make up 93% of the squad the Belgium tactician took to the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast which finished third.
Hugo during an interview said “I’m very sorry – not physically or whatever, but we talked about it a few minutes ago, about tactical discipline, organisation. I see sometimes when I go to PSL games, then I wonder how are they playing though? There is no tactical discipline. Players are running everywhere. You can’t do that on the international level; you need tactical discipline, you need a plan,” stated Broos, speaking to Soccer Africa.
“You know many people in Ivory Coast came to me from different countries, after the game for example and they said; ‘You don’t play like South Africa usually play’ and this is true because South African football is combinations and technical things. But on the international level, there’s so much more (to do).”
