No fewer than 12 coaches yesterday beat the deadline for submission of application letters to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF for the vacant post of head coach of the senior men’s national team of Nigeria, Super Eagles which was advertised last week.
The federation had five days ago declared the position of the Super Eagles head coach vacant following the expiration of the contract of former gaffer Jose Peseiro at the end of February.
Peseiro’s stewardship saw the Super Eagles soar to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they narrowly succumbed to host nation Cote d’Ivoire in a gripping showdown.
In the wake of Peseiro’s exit, the Nigerian Football Federation swiftly appointed Augustine Eguavoen, a former international and the head of the NFF’s Technical Department, as the interim head coach.
However, Eguavoen is not inclined to assume the permanent head coach role.
Top coaches like Emmanuel Amuneke, Finidi George, Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, and Salisu Yusuf have all applied to lead the Super Eagles.
Former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon head coach, Antonio Conceicao is also in the running for the top job.
