The conclusion of the 13th All-African Games has led to a dramatic scene unfolding at the hostel housing volunteers as they engaged in a dispute with officials over their allowances.
Volunteers who helped at the just-ended All African Games woke up at their hostel (Pentagon Hostel) waiting for the allowance promised them, only to be asked to check out from the hostel without any money.
The African Games ended on Saturday, March 23rd with Egypt winning a total of 192 medals to emerge champions and also the host of the next edition.
“We the Volunteers for the 13th ALL AFRICAN GAMES have been denied our due including TNT and are being forced to leave the Hostels immediately.”
Volunteers allege that officials have withheld their allowances of GHC2,000 ($152) each, in addition to their promised transport fare of GHC500 each ($38).
