As one of the biggest sports channels in Africa, SuperSport has a history of broadcasting prior editions of the FCON event but there are doubts about the broadcast of the 2023 AFCON after the broadcasting media failed to broadcast the 2026 FIFA World Cup African Qualifiers and 2023 CAF Award.
The 2023 Total Energies African Cup of Nations is few days away and African football fans are sure of which channels to watch the game live after Togolese based New World TV was won the Broadcasting rights of the tournament.
According to reports” SuperSport bluntly refused to do a TV rights deal, claiming Interim SuperSport CEO Tex Teixeira told Caf ‘they want to focus more on European football’.”
SuperSport TV has not confirmed or denied an assertion that the reason it is not televising Africa’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers is because it wants to focus more on European football.
The pay channel said it remains committed to broadcasting sports in Africa but through its media channels, the Multichoice company has told fans who inquired and are eager to watch the biggest football tournament in Africa that they don’t have the right to Broadcast the 2023 AFCON
But Just recently the pay TV channel has started making advert on their channels saying “Total Energies African Cup of Nations 13 January – 11 February live on Super Sports.
With the recent advert on Blitz, there is hope that the Pay TV channels might broadcast the 2023 AFCON.
